ASHES OF 71 UNIDENTIFIED BODIES IMMERSED IN GANGA WATER

Nar Seva Narayan Seva Samiti, an NGO dedicated to the service of humanity, once again set an example by immersing the ashes of unidentified dead bodies, found from canals and other places during the last year, in the river Ganga in Haridwar in accordance with all the rules and Hindu customs.

Sumit Phutela, Arman Narula, Moksh Narula, Laddu Chawla and Pradeep Maruti were present along with Raju Charaya, the chief servant of the organization. During the last one year, the organization had found about 75 unidentified dead bodies, which were cremated with full respect by the organization. Only four of these bodies were identified by their relatives who took the ashes with them. Ashes of the remaining 71 bodies were kept safe in the cremation ground, which have now been immersed in the Ganga river in Haridwar.

The Samiti has been rendering this service for the last 25 years. Members- Bittu Narula, Parvesh Dhingra, Sonu Sharma, Sonu Grover, Monu Grover and Ravi- provide support in the cremation rituals. Raju Charaya said that about 25 years ago he had seen such a painful scene which changed the direction of his life. Municipal Council employees were found cremating an unknown body by keeping it in a garbage trolley and burning a tyre. Moved by this, he resolved that in future no unidentified dead body would be left in a humiliated state. Till now, the Samiti has conducted cremation of more than 2 thousand unidentified dead bodies.

Despite finding so many dead bodies, the police administration failed to identify most of them. Charaya demanded that a special police team be formed to help in identifying unclaimed and unidentified bodies, so that correct information can be provided to the families of the deceased.
