The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed chargesheet against four accused in a Digital Arrest Case before the Hon’ble Chief Judicial Magistrate, Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, in connection with the Digital Arrest Cyber Fraud Case. This case was originally registered by Rajasthan police and then transferred to CBI by Rajasthan Government.
The CBI had taken over the investigation of the case, on the reference of the Government of Rajasthan. In the case, victim was fraudulently “digitally arrested” by cybercriminals impersonating as officials of a law enforcement agency. By threatening the victim, accused persons had extorted a sum of ₹7.67 crore from the victim during the period from October 2023 to January 2024. The victim is a professor in a renowned educational institution.
During the course of investigation, the CBI developed crucial leads and, as part of its ongoing crackdown on cybercrime networks under Operation Chakra-V, conducted extensive searches at multiple locations across the country. These searches led to the recovery of significant incriminating materials against the accused persons. Based on the findings so far, a total of eight persons have been arrested in connection with the case.
The chargesheet has been filed against four accused within the statutory time limit of 60 days from the date of their arrest, as prescribed under law, while investigation is continuing against the remaining four accused. All eight arrested individuals are presently in judicial custody.
