LAWYERS OBSERVE STRIKE IN PROTEST AGAINST HOOLIGANISM AT COURT COMPLEX

Lawyers, led by Bar Association Abohar President Amandeep Singh Dhaliwal, observed a strike today, halting all work to express their outrage over Tuesday’s incident of hooliganism that occurred in broad daylight outside the Abohar sub-division courts.

Upon learning of the strike, and acting on instructions from the Sessions Judge of Fazilka, a police team led by SP Gurmeet Singh—representing the District Police Chief—held a meeting with the lawyers in the Bar Room here.

During the meeting, the lawyers expressed their anger regarding a December 11, 2025 murder incident and recent acts of hooliganism in the parking area of the Subdivision court complex, demanding that the safety of lawyers and others within the court premises be ensured.

Former Bar Association Secretary Amritpal Singh Tinna, Vice President Shruti Bhimwal, Sanjeev Bajaj, Arun Munjal, and others shared their views. Association President Amandeep Singh Dhaliwal, citing a writ petition filed in the High Court, demanded robust security arrangements and the temporary establishment of a police post at the court complex.

SP Gurmeet Singh assured that special security measures would be implemented at the Abohar court complex with their safety in mind. In addition to deploying two special police personnel for security checks, an Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) manned by four police personnel equipped with modern weapons will patrol near the court complex parking area.

He said that action has been initiated regarding yesterday’s incident, with a case registered against 14 named individuals and several unidentified persons. He added that necessary steps regarding the establishment of a police post at the court complex would be taken soon following consultations with senior police officials. Specific instructions will also be issued regarding CCTV cameras.

The Bar Association decided to call off the strike following assurances given by police officials. Bar Association Secretary Gaurav Dhuria conducted the proceedings.
