The PSO-Gunman Tri-City Association has been formed by members of the PSO-gunman community, with Mandeep Singh unanimously elected as its president. Addressing a press conference held at the Chandigarh Press Club today, Mandeep Singh said that the association’s executive committee has been constituted, with Saranjit Singh appointed as General Secretary, Jasvir Singh as Vice-President, Satnam Singh as Treasurer, Sikander Singh as Secretary, Ramandeep Singh as Joint Secretary, Boota Singh as Press Secretary, Captain Sukhwinder Singh as Chairman, Dilab Singh as Vice-President and Vice-Chairman, Tajinder Singh as Social Media In-charge, and Bhupinder Singh and Jaswinder Singh as Advisors. Manpreet Singh, Darshan Singh and Kulwinder Singh will serve as executive members.
President Mandeep Singh said the main objective of the organisation is to bring all those associated with PSO and gunman services onto a common platform. He said the association’s office-bearers are committed to raising the problems and rights of employees associated with the community at the appropriate forums.
Mandeep Singh said the association would raise the legitimate problems and demands of its members before the concerned departments and the government. He said around 500 members are currently associated with the organisation, most of whom are retired personnel from the police, Army or paramilitary forces.
Problems Faced by the PSO-Gunman Community
Highlighting the problems faced by the PSO-gunman community, Mandeep Singh said that whenever an incident takes place, the employers often manage to escape responsibility, while the PSOs and gunmen get caught up in the case and their weapons are also seized. He said this happens because the employers of PSOs and gunmen neither provide them with appointment letters nor issue identity cards.
He demanded that the administration formulate rules making it mandatory for employers to provide PSOs and gunmen with appointment letters and identity cards, besides making insurance coverage compulsory for them.
Mandeep Singh further said that in Punjab, the renewal of arms licences unnecessarily takes three to four months. He urged the government to pay attention to this issue as well. He also drew the authorities’ attention to the easy availability of fake weapons and Army and police uniforms, demanding that strict monitoring be undertaken to prevent their misuse.Social Service Initiatives by the Association
Mandeep Singh said the association has set a target of organising three blood donation camps every year and planting 15,000 saplings as part of its social service initiatives.
