DELHI AATS TEAM BUSTED ILLICIT CIGARETTES GODOWN, ONE ARRESTED

ACCUSED USED TO IMPORT THE ILLICIT CIGARETTES FROM OTHER COUNTRIES AND USED TO SUPPLY IN DELHI NCR AREA. TOTAL 15680 PACKETS OF ILLICIT CIGARETTES WITHOUT HAVING MANDATORY WARNING SIGN AND MRP AS PER COTPA ACT RECOVERED,  PROACTIVE ACTION BY THE TEAM IN ORDER TO MAKE DELHI DRUG AND ILLICIT TOBACCO PRODUCTS FREE CAMPAIGN OF DELHI POLICE

A team of AATS, South West District has arrested one illicit cigarette supplier namely Manmeet Kumar S/o Hari Shanker R/o Rajveer Colony, Gadholi East Delhi, Age 29 years. With his arrest, total 15680 packets of illicit cigarettes are recovered without having mandatory warning sign and MRP as per Copta Act. 

A special drive against illicit liquor & cigarette suppliers is being continuously carried out in the South-West District to make Delhi drug/prohibited Tobacco product free. The AATS/South-West District team was tasked to develop information and to nab the persons who indulged in supplying of illicit cigarettes in the area.

(SUBHEAD)A dedicated team comprising of SI Ved Prakash, ASI Jaipal, ASI Vinod Kumar, ASI Praveen Kumar, HC Mohit, HC Ravinder, HC Narender, HC Hari Om & HC Prashant was constituted under the leadership of Insp. Ram Kumar, I/C AATS/SWD under overall supervision of Sh. Vijay Kumar, ACP/Operations/South-West District, Delhi to identify and arrest the criminals with a special focus on nabbing the supply chain of illicit tobacco products.

The team activated the secret informers and staff was deployed in the area to get intelligence and information about the illicit tobacco products active in the area.

Mr. Surendra Choudhary, IPS, DCP, South West Distt, said, on 23.04.2025, the team received information about illicit tobacco products supplier that he stored the illicit cigarettes in K-Block Mahipalpur area to supply the same in Delhi NCR area. Acting swiftly on the secret information, team apprehended one Manmeet Kumar S/o Hari Shanker R/o Rajveer Colony, Gadholi East Delhi, Age 29 years and the following cigarettes have been recovered from his possession:

*Platinum seven 7 Denim blue super slim blended in Switzerland (Quantity – 15 boxes of illicit cigarettes (14 Boxes containing 10500 packets of cigarettes and One box containing 680 packets of cigarettes),

*Platinum seven 7 Cool switch on regular to fresh blended in Switzerland super slim cigarettes (Quantity 6 boxes containing 4500 packets of cigarettes)

He admitted that he used to import the illicit cigarettes from other countries to supply the illicit cigarettes in Delhi and NCR. Accordingly, a case u/s 7/20 COTPA Act was registered at PS Vasant Kunj North, Delhi & accused was arrested.

KNOW THE ACCUSED: Accused Manmeet Kumar S/o Hari Shanker R/o Rajveer Colony, Gadholi East Delhi, Age 29 years was born and brought up in Kalyan Niwas Jhuggi Kalyanpuri, Delhi. Initially he was working in Metro Hospital Preet Vihar, where he met with one Kapil. After some time, he visited Oman. His friend used to import the illicit cigarettes from outside of country. He used to supply the illicit cigarettes in Delhi NCR area. 

Further investigation is under progress.
