CBI COURT LUCKNOW SENTENCES THEN REGIONAL AYURVEDIC & UNANI OFFICER (RAUO) TO 3 YEARS’ IMPRISONMENT WITH FINE OF RS. 1 LAKH IN AYURVED SCAM

The Special Court for CBI cases, Ayurved Scam Matter, Lucknow on Wednesday  sentenced accused Dr. Ramesh Chandra Sharma, Regional Ayurvedic & Unani Officer (RAUO), Banda (U.P.) to 3 years’ Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 1 lakh in Ayurved Scam.

CBI had registered a case on 06.08.1996 in compliance of Order dated 10.07.1996 of Hon’ble High Court at Allahabad. It was alleged that Dr. Shivraj Singh, then Director, Ayurved and Unani Officer, UP Lucknow had a budget of Rs 3,94,35,000/- allotted under the head 06, 25 and 33 but, in larger criminal conspiracy with District Ayurved and Unani Officers (DAUO) of different districts, had issued bogus grant letters/allotment letters for Rs 46 crore and on the basis of such letters DAUOs of different districts raised demand of additional budget grants under the aforesaid heads and purchased medicines and medical equipments & other articles without any actual demand and at much exorbitant rates than the actual market rates, without tenders, thereby causing undue loss to the government. 

After completion of investigation, 01 chargesheet and 33 supplementary chargesheets were filed by CBI against different sets of accused persons. The supplementary chargesheet vide CC No. 8/1998 was filed on 14.01.1998 against 6 accused including Dr. Ramesh Chandra Sharma, RAUO, Banda who was sentenced by the Court today.

During trial, 5 other accused named in the said chargesheet, expired and case was abated against them.
