The Police Control Room received a PCR call  on Tuesday regarding an accident at the Tilak Nagar Flyover. The traffic police officers from Tilak Nagar circle promptly responded and arrived at the scene where a Honda Amaze car with registration number DL3FA0065 was found in a wrecked condition. The injured had already been transported to the hospital. It was revealed that the car had three occupants. Tragically, two of them, Jagrit Vaid (son of Neeraj Vaid) and Vedant Arora (son of Sandeep Arora), were declared dead on arrival at the hospital. The third occupant, Ananya Sehgal (daughter of Sunil Sehgal), was injured.

In accordance with the instructions of senior officers, a total of six teams of traffic police personnel were formed to locate the offending vehicle. During the investigation, CCTV footage from routes including Ganesh Nagar Chowk, Tilak Nagar Chowk, Tagore Garden Metro Station, 24×7 Vikaspuri, and Shivaji College was reviewed. It revealed a truck carrying water near the location of the incident. All teams were deployed along Najafgarh Road from Rajouri Garden to Uttam Nagar Chowk, Pankha Road, and Outer Ring Road to trace the vehicle.

During the search, the suspected truck with registration number HR55AL2891 was found parked near Mahavir Nagar, opposite B-1 Janakpuri, by traffic personnel. Upon comparison with CCTV images, it was confirmed to be the same truck involved in the incident.

Details of the truck's ownership revealed it belongs to Umesh Kumar Mahto of M/s Sneha HDD Services, located at VPO Khandsa, Gurugram, Haryana, with a temporary address at Mehrauli, Delhi. Upon inquiry with the owner, the driver was identified as Bharat Ray, son of Sukar Ray, a resident of Banka, Bihar, aged 34 years. During interrogation, Bharat Ray admitted that on June 18, 2024, he had picked up water from the Padam Nagar area and was en route to Mahavir Nagar when the accident occurred at Tilak Nagar Flyover during the intervening night. He also provided details of the route taken from Padam Nagar to Mahavir Nagar. Bharat Ray was subsequently handed over to the local police of PS Tilak Nagar, Delhi.

Inspector Kulvir Singh, TI/Tilak Nagar Circle, and his team have done a commendable job in tracing the offending vehicle
