KVK, ICAR ORGANISE AWARENESS PROGRAM FOR FARMERS UNDER VIKSIT KRISHI SANKALP ABHIYAN

Under the “Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan”, an awareness program was jointly organized in village Maujgarh by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering Technology, Punjab Agricultural University and Agriculture Department Punjab. The objective of the program was to provide information to farmers about the latest production techniques of Kharif crops, natural and organic farming. 

Central Govt Agriculture Commissioner Dr PK Singh, Director of ICAR-CIPHET Ludhiana Dr Nachiket Kotwaliwale, Principal Scientist of Indian Institute of Millets Research (IIMR) Ludhiana Dr Ramesh Kumar, Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Rajinder Kamboj, PAU Abohar center scientist Dr Jagdish Arora and other experts were present. MLA Sandeep Jakhar and former Chairman of Punjab Farmers Commission Ajay Veer Jakhar motivated farmers to do farming in a scientific manner.  

(SUBHEAD)Dr PK Singh gave detailed information on the measures to double the income of farmers. He said that steps like modern agricultural techniques, water conservation, diversification, crop insurance and agricultural value addition can help in increasing the income of farmers. 

Dr Nachiket Kotwaliwale delivered a lecture on post-harvest process and processing techniques and explained how proper storage and processing can increase the value of the crop. 

Dr Ramesh Kumar highlighted the prospects of maize in Fazilka district and made the farmers aware of the possibilities of commercial farming in this region.
