On the occasion of World Hepatitis Day, Paras Health Panchkula reiterated its commitment to liver health by emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and comprehensive management of hepatitis and related liver diseases. Through its advanced Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, the hospital is taking proactive steps to improve awareness, diagnosis, and treatment outcomes for patients.

Hepatitis is a serious health condition that causes inflammation of the liver and can be triggered by viral infections (particularly hepatitis B and C), excessive alcohol use, prolonged medication use, or metabolic disorders. The real danger lies in how silently the disease can progress—most individuals remain unaware until complications like cirrhosis, liver failure, or even liver cancer begin to appear. Doctors at Paras Hospital Panchkula have noted that some herbal supplements and ayurvedic drugs are increasingly being seen as a cause of hepatitis .

As per the World Health Organization’s 2024 Global Hepatitis Report, India continues to carry one of the world’s highest burdens of viral hepatitis, with an estimated 40 million people living with chronic hepatitis B and 6 to 12 million with hepatitis C. Despite this, awareness and testing rates remain low, with less than 3% of hepatitis B patients diagnosed and treatment coverage still below 20% for hepatitis C in many regions. These figures are particularly concerning given the rising incidence in semi-urban and tier-II cities, including parts of Haryana.[1]

In this backdrop, timely screening, early diagnosis, vaccination, and public education are no longer optional—they are critical to preventing irreversible liver damage and curbing the growing public health burden of liver disease in India.

(SUBHEAD)“Paras Health Panchkula offers advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services for liver and gastrointestinal conditions, including Endoscopic Ultrasound for targeted liver biopsies and treatment of gastric varices. The hospital is also preparing to initiate liver transplant services, with a few cases already successfully conducted at its Gurugram facility. “We use state-of-the-art diagnostic tools such as liver function tests, Fibroscan, endoscopy, colonoscopy, and liver biopsy to ensure early detection and effective management of all forms of hepatitis,” said Dr. Rakesh Kochhar, Director – Gastroenterology, Paras Health Panchkula.

He emphasized that chronic hepatitis often progresses silently, making early intervention crucial to prevent irreversible liver damage. The hospital’s focus remains on early screening, personalized care, and long-term management.”

The Gastroenterology Department at Paras Health follows evidence-based clinical protocols and ensures a multidisciplinary approach to digestive and liver health. With a strong focus on preventive care, public awareness, and timely intervention, the hospital continues to strengthen its specialised offerings in the region.
