Chandigarh Administration has banned Single Use plastic items including plastic carry bags and non-woven carry bags since 2019.

The Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee (CPCC) in association with Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh (MCC) is regularly conducting awareness activities and inspections in the jurisdiction of Chandigarh.

On Wednesday, the MCC conducted surprise raid in Sector 26 Mandi. During which three stockists were caught selling the banned plastic carry bags in U.T. Chandigarh. These stockists were imposed with challan and approx 112 kgs of plastic carry bags were seized during inspection. This drive is a part of the action to be taken to eliminate the supply and use of banned plastic across the city.

The seized plastic was transported to dry waste processing plant for shredding and will be disposed off as per the PWM Rules. This is a strict warning to all the violators not to sale, distribute, transport or use banned plastic otherwise this will attract strong legal action and penalty.
