On 05.09.2025 at about 02:06 AM, a PCR call regarding a fire incident was received at PS Paharganj. SHO/Paharganj, along with staff members ASI Jitender Kumar, ASI Dheeraj Kumar, and PCR staff, promptly rushed to the spot at E-Block, Flatted Factory Complex, Jhandewalan, Paharganj, Delhi. Simultaneously, seven fire tenders also attended the scene.

The building is a wholesale shopping complex (DSIDC Flats), which usually closes around 10:30 PM. However, on the intervening night, due to urgent parcel work, five workers were working late. Along with the night guard, they were trapped on the upper floors when the fire broke out.

As per the statement of the night guard, the fire originated near the exit gate of the building, which blocked the passage and left the workers and the guard trapped inside.

The fire started on the ground floor, and dense smoke soon engulfed the premises. Through the swift, coordinated, and courageous efforts of SHO/Paharganj, ASI Jitender Kumar, ASI Dheeraj Kumar, PCR staff, and fire officials, six trapped persons were successfully rescued from the upper floors.

During the operation, two police personnel bravely lifted a heavy stone and smashed it into the iron grill of a window at the rear side of the building, creating an opening through which the night guard was rescued. The other five workers trapped on the upper floors were rescued with the assistance of the fire team, and all were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for precautionary medical examination.

This courageous and timely action played a crucial role in saving lives and averting a major tragedy.
