(MOREPIC1)  Raj Sadosh/Abohar.

On the second day of the legislative assembly session today, MLA Sandeep Jakhar suggested measures to deal with the problems of floods, rain, and waterlogging in the area. He said the government should start a pilot project in Fazilka district and also implement the crop insurance scheme.

The MLA said that while the government talks about compensating laborers, the reality is that no list has been prepared so far. He said that a directory should be created for laborers, those doing cotton picking and other farm work, should also be compensated. He demanded that girdawari be conducted for orchards damaged in the Abohar and Balluana constituencies, and compensation should be released to orchard owners as well.

Jakhar said that many villages in the Abohar area have waterlogging problem. He had repeatedly requested the government to get it scientifically investigated and efforts should be made to find a solution. If not resolved soon, horticulture in the Abohar area will be completely destroyed.

He said that the problems and solutions are present in the 'Punjab State Agriculture Policy', which has been prepared multiple times by various commissions but is gathering dust. Without open discussion on it, no solution will emerge
