The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered an FIR against former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Mohammad Mustafa, his wife and former state minister Razia Sultana, and others in the murder case of their son, Aqeel Akhtar (35), officials said.

Aqeel Akhtar was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Panchkula, Haryana on October 16. According to the FIR filed on Thursday, there was a dispute between the deceased and his family.

(SUBHEAD)A CBI spokesperson said late Thursday night, “CBI has registered an FIR on November 6 in the Aqeel Akhtar murder case. The FIR has been filed based on the allegations that Aqeel Akhtar, son of former Punjab DGP Mohammad Mustafa and former Punjab PWD (Public Works Department) Minister Razia Sultana, died under suspicious circumstances on October 16. Mustafa and Sultana currently live in Sector 4, near the Mansa Devi Temple in Panchkula.

The statement said the CBI has registered an FIR against Mustafa and Sultana, as well as Akhtar's wife and sister, under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) related to murder and criminal conspiracy. The agency said Akhtar had posted a video on social media on August 27, alleging that he had discovered an “illicit relationship” between his wife and his father and that his entire family, including his mother and sister, was conspiring to murder him or frame him in a false case. The case was initially registered by the Panchkula police and later handed over to the CBI by the Haryana government.
