Paralympic Committee of India national president Padma Shree Deepa Malik, recipient of Arjuna Award and Khel Ratna Award, has said, “We are preparing for the coming Paralympic Games. For this, players have been provided all possible resources, sports equipment, wheelchairs as well as experienced coaches. In this year's Commonwealth Games, paralympic players were expected to get about three to four and about 100 other medals in the Para Asian Games.”
She said, “We have asked the central government for a budget of Rs 45 crores for paralympic players. This will facilitate the players to avail of the best level of facilities. Coaches of Paralympic Games were less in number but we are preparing them for sports by conducting technical courses to general coaches. Recently 168 people have done this technical course.(SUBHEAD)
Malik said, “We are also connecting the differently-abled players under the 'Khelo India' program so that they can get every facility. Our special focus will be on junior and sub junior games. Due to pandemic educational institutions were unable to organise competition for disabled players, they will connect children with Khelo India.”
The Arjuna Awardee further said that the Sports Authority of India has also given importance to winning the general games in different sports in the National Talent Search. This will give a boost to the Paralympic Games in Shekhawati.
There are many schools which do not even have a ground for sports. As per the rules such educational institutions should not be recognized at all. This time Rajasthan has offered to host the National Swimming Competition of Paralympic players. The competition will be held in Udaipur from March 23 to 27. There are more than 12,000 Divyang people in Rajasthan, but Divyang players are only about 500.
