Karamjeet Kaur Danewalia, known as “Kinnow Queen”, bats for crop diversification amidst reports on rooting of orchards due to poor water availability and adverse climate.
In her recent meeting with Governor Banwari Lal Purohit, she spoke about the various problems being faced by the farmers.

Danewalia, also a member of the Board of Directors of the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Science University, while emphasizing on the need to pursue the scientific research for agricultural diversification, requested the Governor to recommend heavy grants from the Central Government so that farmers adopt allied agricultural occupations to overcome the damage caused by the prevailing water-consuming crops and the weather.

She said that the income of farmers can increase only by promoting agricultural diversification. The state government had set up a huge institute to promote animal husbandry and research work in Sappanwali village of Abohar, but such steps can be made meaningful only when the said university gets adequate grant from the central government. When plants in orchards dry due to shortage of irrigation facilities and adverse weather conditions, farmers can be expected to sustain with the prevailing situation, much needs to be done to make farming and fruit plantations prosperous, she said.
