MLA Sandeep Jakhar has said that the Aam Aadmi Party government, which came to power claiming to bring change and revolution in Punjab, transferred Abohar Municipal Corporation Commissioner and Sub-Divisional Magistrate about two months ago, but no one has been appointed in their place yet. It is necessary to have a regular Commissioner to oversee the development works worth crores of rupees started by the Corporation, but the government is sitting on its hands.

He said that the government has also fixed the award for compensation for the acquisition of land of farmers for four-laning of highways and other schemes, but regular appointment of SDM is necessary to make payment to the affected farmers. Due to not being so, compensation for acquisition to the farmers as well as those affected due to natural calamity is hanging in the balance.(SUBHEAD)

The MLA said that during the budget session, the Speaker graciously provided an opportunity to the opposition MLAs to ask questions and apprise the government of the problems during Zero Hour and Question Hour. Taking advantage of this, he raised issues like delay in development of Veterinary College in Sappanwali village, slow construction of bus stand at Abohar, canal water scarcity and destruction of orchards due to high temperature. He is confident that the government will try to fulfill the assurances given on them at the earliest.

Drawing the attention of the government towards the delay in filling the vacant posts of class IV employees in government schools for the last several years, he has urged the govt to make appointments at the earliest so that the students and teachers feel relieved. The issue has also been raised that grants should be released to develop playgrounds in under-construction stadiums and coaches should also be appointed so that the passion for sports and distance from drugs can increase among the youth.

Mr. Jakhar said that for 30 years, the number of cancer patients has been increasing due to discharge of the dirty water of Buddha Nullah into the rivers, but this problem has not been solved yet. 40 years ago, due to water, water and air pollution and increasing cost of crops and getting low prices, farmers had to agitate and that position unfortunately still persists.
