On the 41st martyrdom day of Lala Jagat Narain, who was considered the messiah of journalism, the Lekhak Parishad organised a meeting to pay tributes to him. Sunil Bhardwaj, Praveen Kathuria, Devinderpal, Deepak Mehta, Jatin Dhawan, Ramkumar Nokhwal were among those who paid floral tributes to Lala ji.

Paying homage to Lala ji, Parishad chief Raj Sadosh said that while receiving education in Lahore, Lala ji showed his deep love for patriotism by joining the trumpeters of freedom, as well as bringing awareness among the countrymen through Hind Samachar, Urdu newspaper.(SUBHEAD)

After the family had to migrate to Jalandhar after the partition of the country, Lala ji established new dimensions in the field of Urdu as well as Hindi and Punjabi journalism. While treading the difficult path of raising the voice of the people, he faced many challenges firmly. Even after the power connection of the printing press was cut, the family made a history of sorts by running the press with a tractor.

Referring to Lala ji's contact with Abohar, he said that Lala Jagat Narain during his arrival here, met freedom fighter Lala Chandi Ram Varma and Sahitya Sadan founder Swami Keshwanand several times. While discussing the post-Independence situation, Lala ji expressed the feeling that there was something lacking in realizing the dreams of freedom which were cherished by the martyrs. Even today, those ideals and struggles are remembered. Lala ji's scions are now dedicated to the service of the nation following his high ideals.
