Dr. V. P. Sethi of Abohar has been honoured under the Pioneer of Medical Sciences, a major project of SRS Foundation associated with the state and Central Governments, at a Medical Conference held recently in Chandigarh to provide a platform to recognize and appreciate the contribution of unsung medical heroes for their excellence and exemplary contribution to the society, especially during the pandemic times.

Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra conferred the award to Dr. Sethi in the presence of Rajya Sabha member Padam Shree Balbir Singh Seechewal a renowned environmentalist, Director SRS Foundation, Dr. Sajan Sharma, MLA Dr. Charanjit Singh Chamkaur Sahib, MLA Dr. Amandeep Kaur Arora Moga, MLA Neena Mittal from Rajpura and Dr. Prabhjot Kaur District President AAP Mohali.(SUBHEAD)(MOREPIC2)

Dr. Sethi was transferred from Ferozepur to Civil Hospital at Abohar in March 1990 when people here lost faith in administrative, police and health services as armed terrorists killed 33 innocent citizens. The challenge before the new team of officers was to restore faith and provide relief to the people. Not only Dr. Sethi set examples in his profession as a surgeon in the civil hospital but also actively participated in social service.

His work touched new heights when he successfully performed a tough surgery to remove hair and woollen threads that a girl in a school had been swallowing. He has made valuable contributions in organising about two dozen annual free general and laparoscopic camps that were sponsored by Shree Satya Sai Sewa Samiti at Abohar.
