On the writ petition filed by Ashok Watts, president of the Retired Municipal Employees Welfare Association, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has now directed the Public Information Officer (PIO) of the Abohar Municipal Corporation to bring the original record relating to auction of property conducted on August 20, 2010 on the next date of hearing on January 16, 2023.

Notice of Motion has been issued to the State Information Commission, Principal Secretary, Director and Regional Deputy Director of the Local Bodies Department.

(SUBHEAD)The state Govt had got the alleged “property scam” probed by a senior IAS officer, RC Nayyar, he in the report indicated three former executive officers. The Vigilance Department had also registered a case at Ferozepur against the then MC president Shiv Raj Goyal and clerk Jaspal Singh in this connection, later Jaspal Singh died.

Petitioner Ashok Watts, said that he did not get justice even on an appeal in the State Information Commission regarding the alleged scam. He had sought a video CD of the auction process from the MC, but was allegedly provided a fake CD. The Local Bodies Department also shied away saying that the CD sought by the complainant has been given and a criminal case has been registered, hence no further investigation was required in the matter.
