Silk – the queen of all fabrics is historically one of India's most important industries. Silk is a rich and traditional fabric which is also costlier option among the other fabrics. Costumes made in silk are considered to improve people’s status symbol and add traditional look to his or her dressing.

This B2C ‘business-to-customer Expo was launched today in Chandigarh and is hosting more than 70 renowned designers and weavers from all over India.
This edition of the National Silk Expo is bound to treat the consumers with a kaleidoscope of India’s colorful diversity and talent. Special focus this time is on bridal sarees for the upcoming wedding and festive season specially Karva Chauth.
The National Silk Expo ‘Wedding Season Special’, will showcase some of the finest Silks, Cotton, saree, Suit, Dress material, Fashion Jewellery and many more from various states of India such as Pochampally, Muga Silk, Paithani, Kosa Silk, Baluchuri, and Tussar, with exclusives weaves, designs and traditional motifs. Saris with intricate Madhubani print from Bihar are a highlight of the expo. The stalls also have Kosa and tassar silk saris.
Speaking on the occasion, Organizer Jayesh Kumar of Gramin Haskala Vikas Samiti said that silk and cotton mix drapes are very popular among the youth. Assam munga silk, the most expensive on the show and are available at very attractive prices. The traditional bandhani and patola collection of sarees from Gujarat which carry the history of the place are also on display.
Featured weaves will include Lucknowi Chikan work, Kutch embroidery, Maheshwari work, Ikat, Patola silk, Gajji silk, Munga silk, Gathjoda work, Uppada sarees, and Kantha work among many other techniques. The expo also offers Chanderi and Maheswari silks from Madhya Pradesh, Bandhej silks from Rajasthan, Tanchoi, Jamdani, Lucknow chikan work and Banarasi silks from Uttar Pradesh and Baluchari, Dhakai Jamdani, Kantha work, Baylu linen saree, Muslin, Tant and Tangail silks from West Bengal. Punjabi fulkari work suits.
The exhibition aims to promote handloom crafts and give the tricity’s shoppers a one-stop location for India’s diverse weaving traditions.
