VIGILANCE ARRESTS ASI FOR TAKING BRIBE RS 15,000

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the State today nabbed an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Manjit Singh, posted at police station city, Sangrur red handed for accepting bribe of Rs 15,000.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said the accused ASI has been arrested on the complaint of Pritpal Singh resident of Sangrur. Giving details he said the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above said police official was demanding a bribe of Rs 20,000 by threatening his friend Gurpiar Singh to register an extortion case against him.(SUBHEAD)

The spokesperson added that after verifying this complaint, a VB team laid a trap and the accused was caught red handed taking bribe money of Rs. 15,000 in the presence of two official witnesses. He informed that a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused ASI at VB police station Patiala and further investigation was under progress.
