The Military Literature Festival, Chandigarh (MLF) was started in 2017 as a partnership between the Punjab Government, Chandigarh Administration and the Indian Army’s Western Command by Sh.VP Singh Badnore and Captain Amarinder Singh the then Governor and Chief Minister of Punjab respectively.

Over the years it has grown into a premier international gathering of military historians, thinkers, strategic analysts and writers to discuss and talk about warfare, history and intellectual pursuits.

In addition, to spread the Festival’s message of physical fitness, sports, saying no to drugs, national security, paying homage to martyrs and giving a direction to youth a number of events like a motorcycle rally, horse show, polo match, shotgun and archery competitions, golf tournament etc are held.(SUBHEAD)

This will be the sixth edition. To commemorate the 75th anniversary of Independence and the services of our Armed Forces in preserving our freedom the MLF’s theme this year is ‘The Armed Forces: Serving Free India for 75 Years’. After two years of a pandemic-induced online format we’re reverting to the physical event at our traditional venue, the Lake Club, Chandigarh. Sunday, 27th November will witness the Bravehearts’ Ride featuring over 600 motorcycle riders.

This year the event is dedicated to the memory of and in homage to the martyrs of the 1962 war whose 60th anniversary has just ended. This will be flagged off from the Chandigarh Club.

The main event will be inaugurated by Shri Banwarilal Purohit, Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh on Saturday, 3rd December. This will be followed by panel discussions on topics of national, international interest and strategic affairs and conversations between authors and discussants. A few new books will also be released. There will be book stalls, martial dances will be staged, weapons and military equipment displayed and a Mela-like atmosphere will prevail on the banks of Chandigarh’s scenic Sukhna Lake.

These events will continue the next day i.e., Sunday the 4th of December. Sardar Bhagwant Singh Mann, Chief Minister of Punjab will bring the curtain down on the Festival at the closing ceremony in the evening the same day.

Lt Gen TS Shergill, PVSM, Chairman, Military Literature Festival Association and Organising Committee, MLF 2022, said, we are very grateful to our Patron in Chief, Shri Banwarilal Purohit, Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh and the Chandigarh Administration for their unstinted help and to our principal financiers, Sardar Bhagwant Singh Mann, Chief Minister and the Punjab Government for their generous grant and our other sponsors

In addition, we’re indebted to our partners, Western Command not only for defending the country but for all their invaluable help in the organisation of this premier event. Last but not least this Festival wouldn’t have got off the ground without the hard work and dedication of our band of volunteers.
