8TH CLASS DROPOUT IMPERSONATING AS IPS OFFICER ON SOCIAL MEDIA TO INFLUENCE AND CHEAT PEOPLE MOSTLY WOMEN ARRESTED

PS CYBER, Outer District has arrested Vikas Gautam @ Vikas Yadav, an eighth class dropout, who got so possessed by the IAS/IPS aspirants taking coaching from prominent institutes in Mukherjee Nagar, while selling tea in front of the institute that he impersonated as Vikas Yadav, IPS 2020 batch on all social media platforms and started influencing and cheating people, mostly targeting women.

The accused has cheated more than 50 persons of more than Rs 14 lakh. He also used his fake identity to get work done in different departments in lieu of monetary favours.
 
A case vide FIR No. 75/2022, dated 17.12.2022, u/s 420 IPC, Cyber Police Station Outer District, Delhi was registered on the complaint of a female doctor working in Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, Delhi. The complainant in her complaint alleged that one person with fake ID of IPS Vikas Yadav on Instagram and Facebook became friend with her and after a few days of conversations, had asked her to deposit Rs 25,000/- by phone pay saying that he needed the money for treatment of his mother who is suffering from a life threatening disease.

Investigation: To catch the culprit a team comprising of W/SI Rajani, HC Pawan and Ct. Anil was constituted immediately under leadership of Insp. Mukesh Kumar and Insp. Sandeep Panwar, SHO Cyber PS Outer, under the overall supervision of Sh. Arun Kumar Choudhary, ACP Operation/Outer District. After in depth electronic surveillance, technical analysis, suspect was located in Gwalior. Raids were conducted and accused Vikas Gautam @Vikas Yadav was apprehended. The accused Vikas Gautam @Vikas Yadav first denied his involvement in any type of crime.(SUBHEAD)

However, on checking his mobile phone Instagram, Facebook and Twitter accounts in the name of IPS Vikas Yadav and Gmail ID ‘ipsvikashyadav9@gmail.com’ was found logged in.

The accused identified as Vikas Gautam @Vikas Yadav S/o Sh. Rajesh R/o Panchsheel Nagar, Behind Mela Ground, Gole Ka Mandir, Gawalior, Madhya Pradesh, age-30 years.

Mr. Harendra K. Singh, IPS, DCP, said, accused Vikas Gautam @Vikas Yadav was born on 08.01.1992. He studied till 8th Class from Gwalior, MP. In year 2010, he enrolled himself in ITI (Welder Trade) in Govt. ITI, Birla Nagar, Gwalior, MP. After completing ITI Vikas Gautam @Vikas Yadav joined an Indian central public sector undertaking through a contractor.

After this accused Vikas Gautam @Vikas Yadav worked for some time in various Hotels in Gwalior, MP and then in Municipal Corporation of Gwalior on contract basis from Aug. 2017 to January 2019. He then came to Delhi and worked at a Hotel in Mukherjee Nagar in front of a coaching institute for civil services aspirants and came in contact with many civil services aspirants. After the UPSC results in 2020, accused Vikas Gautam changed his Instagram profile name to ‘Vikashyadav_ips’ and posted the ‘list of candidates selected’ on his Instagram profile, declaring his selection into UPSC.

Accused Vikas Gautam @Vikas Yadav then came in contact with many high profile persons through that fake Instagram ID of Vikas Yadav IPS and presently has 19.7 thousand followers on the fake Instagram ID. He then identified and contacted his victims pretending to be under trainee IPS Vikas Yadav and influenced them to get their work done and started taking money from them.

PREVIOUS INVOLVEMENT:  FIR No. 520/2022, U/s 419 IPC and 66D IT Act, PS Thatipur, Distt. Gawalior, MP.

RECOVEORY: 01 Smart Phone having two SIMs which were being used to contact the victims and get money through UPI, 1 Bank Passbook of the account in which he used to ask his victims to transfer money.
