MEMORIAL OF GHAZAL KING JAGJIT SINGH WILL BE DEVELOPED AT HIS BIRTH PLACE IN SRIGANGANAGAR

A memorial will be developed at the G-25 Civil Lines govt quarterin Sriganganagar where Ghazal King Jagjit Singh was born on February 8, 1941. Jagjit died on October 10, 2011, since then his fans have been demanding that the birth place should be converted into a memorial. The govt quarter was allotted to Jagjit’s father Amar Singh Dhiman who belonged to Ropar district and served as junior engineer at Sriganganagar.

MLA Raj Kumar Gaur, DC Saurabh Swami and SP Anil Deshmukh recently laid the foundation stone of the memorial for which Rs 40 lakh has been granted by the MLA, Rs 60 lakh will by contributed by the Urban Improvement Trust. A huge hall will be developed on the ground floor and rooms on the first floor.

(SUBHEAD)Gaur said that the memorial will be a tribute to the Ghazal Maestro who brought Sriganganagar on the map of music world by composing… Ye daulatbhi le lo, ye shohratbhi le lo, bhalecheen lo mujhse meri jawaani, magarmujhkolauta do bachpan ka saawan, wohkagaz ki kashtiwohbarish ka pani.

DC Saurabh Swami said that if there is no music and art then man is like an animal. He said that at present there is a need to take the youth towards music and positive energy. An open-air theater will also be constructed so that music lovers and artistes can perform programs here. The memorial will always keep Jagjit Singh's memory and music alive, SP Deshmukh said
