The Abohar Sector headquarter authorities of the Border Security Force had made strong arrangements to safeguard the border in Fazilka area as flood threat loomed large in the past week.
(MOREPIC1) Even when about 1.99 lakh cusecs of water were released from Hussainiwala headworks in Sutlej that has its tail-end in Indian territory in Fazilka, the wire fence stayed intact. Around the Border Out Post GGI, 66 Bn of the BSF troops were doing duty in flood areas to protect the national border in tough situations without caring for their life and to prove the BSF motto of duty unto death. The Battalion was doing hard work to defend the international border.
At Kawan Wali Bridge near the international border, where once the water was only 6 inches below the top of the bridge, now the same is 1 foot 6 inches below the top. BSF personnel had to pass through 4ft deep water that had started stagnating. The usual comforts were no more in place but spirits were high.
