GRIID ORGANIZED TRICITY UNIFIED SPORTS MEET

Unified Sports Meet organized by Govt. RehabilitationInstitute for IntellectualDisabilities (GRIID), Sector 31 C, Chandigarh, at Gymnasium Hall, Panjab University, here on Monday as a part of its ongoing silver jubilee celebrations, in which As many as 70 players from special and other schools participated. The sports meet was also organized in view of celebrating National Sports Day which is on 29th August. Persons with intellectual disabilities were partnered with persons having no disability to play unified badminton and table tennis matches

(MOREPIC1) Mr. Mukesh Bansal,Plant Head, Swaraj Engines Limited, Mohali was the Chief Guest. Dr.Dalwinder Singh, Director of Physical Education and Sports, Panjab University,Chandigarh was the guest of honour. Dr Priti Arun, Joint Director of theInstitute welcomed the guests with mementos. The winners were awarded certificates and medals. Manish Kumar Saini,Akash Sethi, Sanyam Grover, Vineet, Akul Malik were the technical persons during this sports meet. Kumud Giri, Ravinder Singh, Anisha Ahuja, Sheetal Negi, Priyanka Saini, Reena and Mahinder were the coordinators of this event.

Table Tennis: In16-21 yrs category, Diksha from GRIID, sector 31-C, and Akalroop learning PathsSchool, Mohali beat Gungun from Asha school Chandimandir and Aanya from StStephen’s by 11-7, 11-9. Above 22 years boyscategory: Hemant Gupta from Reliance and Arman from Govt model senior secondary school, sector 56 together beat Abhay from GRIID, sector 31-C & Aditya fromLearning Paths School by 11-8, 15-13.

Badminton: 12-15yrs category, Keshav from SOREM and Akshat from Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sector 26together beat Dipanshu from GRIID and Madhav from St. Stephen’s by 15-8, 15-7.In 16-21 yrs, Amanfrom Asha School Chandimandir and Paras from Manav Mangal Mohali together beatJatin from GRIID and Sanyam from GRIID by 15-10, 7-15, 15-10. In 22 yrs above, Nitin from GRIID and Garv from Guru Nanak Khalsa together beat Ajay from GRIID andRohan from DAV Lahore by 15-6, 11-15, 15-8.

Mr Jaspal Sharma,Administrative Officer GRIID; Ms Vandana Singh, Officiating Principal; Dr ReenaJain, Clinic Incharge; Dr Ravi KM, college course co-ordinator; Dr Karuppasamy,Assistant Professor and other officials of GRIID were also present in the event. In a series of upcoming events for silver jubilee celebrations, a tri-city music competition shall be organized on 31st August, 2023 for persons with intellectual disabilities followed by concluding function on 1st September, 2023.
