TRIBUTES PAID TO MARTYRS AT ASAFWALA WAR MEMORIAL

Tributes were paid to the martyrs of the Indo-Pak War of 1971 at a function held at the Asafwala War Memorial Fazilka. Major General DS Bisht, Brigadier Manish Kumar Jain, District and Sessions Judge Jatinder Kaur, District Police Chief Manjit Singh Dhesi and ADC Ravinder Singh Arora offered wreaths/flowers at the memorial.  

Major General DS Bisht also inaugurated the commemorative corner built in the memory of Martyr Major General Raj Kumar Suri. A statue of Major General Raj Kumar Suri has been decorated here. Martyr Raj Kumar Suri's wife Prem Suri was the special guest. 

(SUBHEAD)Major General DS Bisht said that the martyrs are the capital of our country and today we are enjoying a free life in the land of Fazilka because of the sacrifice of these martyrs. 

Brigadier Manish Kumar Jain said that the 1971 sentiment towards the country and the army is still intact in the minds of the residents of Fazilka. The army is proud of the people of Fazilka who always walk shoulder to shoulder with the Indian army.

While conducting the proceedings, Praful Chander Nagpal said that Punjab Minister Aman Arora had paid tribute to martyrs at the memorial yesterday and presented a cheque of Rs 15 lakh for the development of the memorial. Out of this Rs 6 lakh is to be utilized for solar lights and solar tube well. 

The families of martyrs and brave women were honored. A marathon race was also organised
