The management of Geeta Mandir celebrated Lohri festival with families of leprosy patients. They recited bhajans and performed arti. The Mandir management committee welcomed the inmates of Malout-based Nav Jiwan Kusht Ashram. This service project was launched about 35 years ago by a group of social activists and philanthropists, most of whom are not alive now.
The inmates of the Kusht Ashram were served food and presented with warm clothes and bedding, ration and other food items including utensils. The management said that the programme to help leprosy patients, which was started decades ago, will continue in future.
Mayor Vimal Thatai appreciated the committee for keeping up the noble mission even after the demise of its founders. It was laudable that the number of women volunteers doing the service on the festival day had increased, he added.
