This workshop provides a platform for rural women to transform waste plastic bottles into artistic eco-friendly planters. This unique initiative was undertaken by two teachers, Dr Jaspreet Kaur Sembi from Department of Botany and Dr Gaurav Gaur from Centre for Social Work. It is not only to address the pressing issue of plastic pollution but also to empower women in rural communities by imparting creative skillsets.

The workshop is in a series through a project sanctioned by Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Chandigarh under the Environment Education Program of MoEF&CC. This is the fourth workshop in a row conducted by Dr Jaspreet Kaur, who has been actively working on these lines with a moto of 'Beat Plastic Plant Life'.

She believes that the project is a creative response to the global challenge of plastic pollution. Gaurav Gaur, Chairperson, Centre for Social Work collaborated by incorporating a hands-on approach to repurposing waste plastic bottles into artistic pieces facilitating skill development. Through this initiative, Panjab University aims to empower rural women by imparting valuable skills that not only contribute to environmental sustainability but also open doors for potential socio-economic opportunities, Gaur shared.
