Lawyers and civil society activists in Lahore, Punjab capital in Pakistan, gathered in the High Court premises last evening to express their joy and gratitude over the successful heart transplant in Chennai, India of Ayesha Rashid, a 19-year-old from Karachi, with the help of an NGO. The national media quoted Ayesha saying she can breathe easily now; the transplant makes a significant chapter in her life's challenging journey.
Ayesha's health struggles began in 2019 when she suffered a cardiac arrest in Karachi due to a pre-existing heart condition. Seeking specialized treatment, she travelled to Chennai for medical evaluation. However, her health complications persisted, prompting her return to Chennai in June 2023. On January 31, 2024, a heart was airlifted from Delhi to Chennai, paving the way for Ayesha's life-saving transplant surgery.
Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi Chairman Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation Pakistan, who had family roots in Abohar, informed that Dr Shahid Naseer, Shehbaz Rasheed Qureshi Advocate, Mian Shahid Advocate, Dr Ali Mian, Rana Shahid, Tariq Rasheed Butt Chief Secretary Pak Adventure Club and others participated in an event at Democratic Lawn of Lahore High Court Bar.
(SUBHEAD)On the occasion, Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi said that life is won, death is lost who saves one person as if he saved the entire humanity. The doctors in India became the messiah in transplanting the heart of a 65-year-old Indian to 19-year-old Ayesha and brought humanity back to life.
He said that in Pakistan, doctors could have done it, but Rs one crore was required. This noble work was done in India without burdening the patient. Heart, liver, kidney, eye transplantation should be made possible in Pakistan. Philanthropists should come forward and make service to suffering humanity a slogan and be present on medical grounds in Pakistan. Indian High Commission should issue visas to citizens of Pakistan on priority basis as and when such emergencies emerge, he said.
