The links of cricket betting bookies caught in Zirakpur some days back have once again been found linked to Fatehabad, a small district of Haryana. The main reason behind this is the Fatehabad District Police not taking any action against those running cricket betting. Besides, the political patronage being received by half a dozen cricket betting kings who are putting the youth in the quagmire of ruin has also been a major reason.
Whenever cricket betting bookies were caught, their main leaders were found to be very close to tlocal (Fatehabad)MLA. The kingpin of the cricket bookies caught was also said to be from Fatehabad grain market, whose father is said to be very close to the local MLA. Punjab Police is now preparing to crack down on this main kingpin of the grain market in the investigation. After this, many more cricket bookie kings may also be caught by the police.
(SUBHEAD)Zirakpur Police had arrested five bookies red-handed while placing bets on IPL matches from a society in Zirakpur. Police have recovered mobile and laptop from them.
According to the police, the accused used to bet on cricket matches online by luring innocent people to double their money. The arrested accused have been identified as Prince, resident of Barnala, Rohit, resident of DSP Road, Fatehabad Haryana, Sem, resident of Gaushala Mohalla, Sirsa, Haryana, Sandeep, resident of village Mohammadpur Rohi, Fatehabad, Haryana and Sujan Kumar, resident of Bhima Basti, Fatehabad, Haryana.
Police said, they had taken a flat in Sushma Valencia Society located on Nagla Road, Zirakpur. Police have registered a case against the accused under sections 3,4 Gambling Act and 420 IPC.
The investigating officer said that during patrolling on Wednesday, the police party was present near Kohinoor Dhaba on Ambala Road Zirakpur at around 12.30 pm. During this, the police party received information that betting on IPL matches was going on in flat 52/3 of Sushma Valencia Society on Nagla Road. Based on the information, the police party raided the said flat of the society and caught 5 people red handed while placing bets.
