89-year-old Tilak Raj has set an example of the importance of voting by using his vote by availing the facility of Election Commission and District Administration to vote from home.
Sharing his experience, Tilak Raj said that he was very happy with this facility as sitting at home, he used his vote in a comfortable environment with complete fairness and transparency.
He said that in view of the summer season, the elderly and PwD (person with disability) voters have benefited greatly with the special facility of voting from home. Instead of going to the polling booths, they have been relieved from the hassle of commuting with the facility of voting from home. He appreciated the initiative of ECI.
Tilak Raj says that seeing the importance of the right to vote, he has always exercised his vote. He appealed to the first-time voters, people and youth to reach the polling booths on June 1 and use their vote on priority basis. He said that everyone should use their vote to strengthen democracy.
District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Dr Senu Duggal said that according to the instructions of the Election Commission, over 85 years of age and PwD Voters were given the facility to vote from home under which a special campaign was conducted.
She said that 1177 senior citizens above 85 years of age and 804 PwDs in all constituencies of district Fazilka are to vote from home at their own discretion.
