The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Punjab, Sibin C, announced that a special holiday has been declared in Punjab on June 1, 2024 (Saturday), to allow voters to cast their votes for the Lok Sabha elections 2024. Additionally, dry days have been declared from 5 PM on May 30, 2024, to 7 PM on June 1, 2024, and on June 4, 2024, the day of election results.

Sibin C further detailed that all government offices, boards, corporations, and educational institutions in Punjab will observe a gazetted holiday on June 1, 2024. This holiday has also been declared under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. Employees working in industrial establishments, businesses, trades, or any other establishments in Punjab will also have a paid holiday on June 1, 2024, as per Section 135B(1) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, to cast their votes. A notification in this regard has already been issued by the Punjab government.

The CEO also informed that in view of the election on June 1, there will be dry days from 5 PM on May 30, 2024, to 7 PM on June 1, 2024. Additionally, all liquor shops will remain closed on June 4, 2024, the day of vote counting.

Sibin C stated that polling will be held from 7 AM to 6 PM on June 1. He appealed to voters to come forward and participate in this biggest festival of democracy by exercising their right to vote, so that the Election Commission’s goal of 'Is Vaar 70 Paar' can be achieved.
