A symposium was organized on Wednesday at Tantia University on the occasion of World Day against Child Labor. CWC President Joginder Kaushik said that efforts are made to stop child labor and connect children with education. Citing the example of children who were standing like statues at various intersections of the city some time ago, he said that they were stopped from doing this and were enrolled in schools.
Assistant Director, Child Empowerment Department, Rajeev Jakhar, said that in India, employing children below the age of fourteen years in commercial and industrial work comes under the category of child labor and for this, the employer can be punished with imprisonment for a maximum of two years and a fine of up to fifty thousand rupees.
(SUBHEAD)Deputy Labor Commissioner Manoj Kumar said that working can be a compulsion for children of needy families, but it is not legal. Efforts are made to provide education and other help to such children by providing them government assistance.
Child Helpline Coordinator Trilok Verma shared information about child labor and other related issues. CWC member Dr. Ram Prakash Sharma spoke about the importance of this day. Journalist Raj Sadosh discussed recent human trafficking through chartered flights and said govt and NGOs should work together to check the menace.
Municipal Council's Legal Advisor Advocate Dr. Bhuvanesh Chander Sharma, Panchayat Samiti Deputy head Brijmohan Yadav, Harneet Singh, Duli Chand Godara, Mohanlal Rinwa, Habib Khan, Sumesh Sharma, Labor Department District Manager Anees Khan, Advocate Tarun Arora also participated in the discussion. Senior litterateur and journalist Krishan Kumar 'Ashu' anchored the programme.
