Kiranpreet Kaur, a woman from the village Wara Waryam Singh Wala in Zira constituency, who is embroiled in a legal battle over fraudulent registration of her ancestral land, has accused the local MLA of Zira, along with police officers, of using oppressive tactics against her.

(MOREPIC1) Today, at the Sutlej Press Club in Ferozepur, Kiranpreet Kaur alleged that she and her father-in-law Bhupinder Singh have been cultivating the land as rightful owners for a long time. She revealed that in 2015, her father-in-law had mortgaged two acres of land to Gamdoor Singh, son of Ajmer Singh, resident of village Hardasa, but the money was returned soon after. Since then, her husband, Jaspreet Singh, has been cultivating the land.

(SUBHEAD)Kiranpreet Kaur accused Gamdoor Singh of tampering with documents to fraudulently transfer their land to his family members, Baljeet Kaur (wife of Gamdoor Singh), Satpal Kaur (wife of Gursevak Singh), and Amandeep Kaur (wife of Baljeet Singh), residents of village Hardasa. Upon discovering this, her husband, now residing in Canada, filed a case in the honorable court.

She stated that their names are still listed as owners in the official records, and despite attempts by the opposing party to dismiss their case, the court rejected such applications. She alleges that due to their inability to win legally, their opponents, with political backing, are now resorting to coercive measures.

Kiranpreet Kaur claimed that her husband left for abroad fearing the threats and entrusted her with the legal battle. She maintains that they have been cultivating the land and that their name has been listed as cultivators since the land was parceled.

She accused the local police, specifically DSP Gurdeep Singh Zira, of threatening her father-in-law at his office to vacate the land, and SHO Jagdev Singh of Zira Sadar station of intimidating her family to drop the case and relinquish the land. She alleged that the MLA and his son sent armed goons to threaten her family, and the local police have been unhelpful, often siding with the opposition.

In an emotional appeal, Kiranpreet Kaur, who lives with her eight-month-old daughter and elderly father-in-law, expressed that the constant threats have created a pervasive atmosphere of fear in her family. She questioned why they are being harassed by the police when the matter is already in court and demanded that the legal process be allowed to continue without interference.

When contacted, MLA Zira Naresh Kataria denied any involvement in the matter, claiming no knowledge of such a case. DSP Zira Gurdeep Singh stated that the family had been summoned multiple times but failed to present any documents, while the opposing party presented ownership papers. SHO Gurdas Singh mentioned that both parties were called to the DSP's office, where Kiranpreet and her family could not produce any documents.
