VIGILANCE BUREAU NABS CANAL PATWARI TAKING RS 20,000 FOR ALLOTTING IRRIGATION WATER

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, on Saturday arrested a Canal Patwari, Karamjit Singh, posted at Ziledari Branch, village Laadbanjara, Sangrur district red handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs. 20,000.

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by Darshan Singh, a resident of village Chhahar in district Sangrur.

He further added that the complainant has approached the VB and informed that he owned 25 acres of land out of which 8 and a half acre of land had already been allotted canal water for irrigation and for allottment of canal water for irrigation to the ramaining land the said patwari had demanded Rs. 2,600 per acre from him.

The spokesperson informed that after a preliminary inquiry into this complaint a VB team laid a trap during which the said Patwari Karamjit Singh was arrested while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 in the presence of two official witnesses. In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Patiala range and further investigation into this case was under process, he said.
