(SUBHEAD)The members of the farmer’s union blocked highways at octroi number 7 in the cantonment area, Talwandi Bhai and Makhu. Avtar Singh Mehma State body member of Krantikari Kissan Union said that the farmers had to sit on dharna since the lifting of paddy was very slow.

“The farmers have been sitting in the grain markets for the last several days and their paddy has not been lifted despite tall claims of the state government. We came to know that the government has not even purchased the rice from the mill owners since last year and now the new season has commenced.”said Mehma.
