CBI COURT SENTENCES FOUR ACCUSED TO FIVE YEARS’ WITH FINE OF RS FIVE LAKH IN STEALING AND ILLEGALLY EN-CASHING NSCS AND KISAN VIKAS PATRAS

The Hon’ble Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, CBI Court no.3, Ghaziabad today sentenced four accused namely Shyam Das, then Sub Post Master, Khatauli Sub Post Office, Distt. Muzaffarnagar; Tika Singh, then Postal Assistant, Khatauli Sub Post Office, Distt. Muzaffarnagar; Dharampal, then Postal Assistant, Jansath Sub Post Office, Distt. Muzaffarnagar and Vinod Kumar (private person) to five years’ Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) with total fine of Rs Five lakh, in a case of stealing and illegally en-cashing National Savings Certificates( NSCs) and Kisan Vikas Patras( KVPs). 

The instant case was registered by CBI on 12.12.2000 on the allegations that some National Savings Certificates and Kisan Vikas Patras were reported to be stolen/lost in 1996-97 from Railway Wagons during transportation from the Indian Security Press, Nasik to different Circle Stamp Depots in India. 

It was further alleged that some unknown persons dishonestly procured the said NSCs and KVPs and entered criminal conspiracy with officials of Postal Department including those convicted by the Court today, who were posted under the O/o Sr. Supdt. of Posts, Muzaffarnagar Division, U.P. Accused allegedly en-cashed /got en-cashed the said stolen/lost KVPs/NSCs which caused wrongful loss to the tune of Rs. 25,82,850/- to Govt. of India and corresponding gain to the themselves. 

During investigation sufficient Oral and Documentary evidences were collected against the accused persons and a Charge sheet in the case was filed on 18.04.2003 in the Court against accused persons. In order to strengthen the case against the accused persons, CBI cited relevant prosecution witnesses along with numerous documents before the Court during trial, which were held by the Hon’ble Court and accordingly the Court sentenced the aforesaid accused persons.
