CBI COURTS SENTENCED THEN SPECIAL ASSTT, UCO BANK PATNA TO 3 YEARS RI WITH FINE SIX LACS IN BANK FRAUD CASE

CBI Court sentences accused then Special Assistant, UCO Bank, Frazer Road Branch, Patna to three years’ Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs six lakh in a bank fraud case

The Ld. Special Judge for CBI Cases, Court-1, Patna has sentenced accused A.K. Biswas, then Special Assistant, UCO Bank, Frazer Road Branch, Patna to three years’ Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) with fine of Rs six lakh in a bank fraud case. 

CBI had registered a case on 20.01.1992 against A.K. Biswas, the then Spl. Assistant, UCO Bank, Frazer Road Branch, Patna and others. It was alleged that during the period 1986 to 1989, accused opened to fictitious account at UCO Bank, Frazer Road branch, Patna and inflated the credit balance and subsequently withdrew the same fraudulently.  

(SUBHEAD)Investigation disclosed that Sh. AK Biswas functioned as Special Assistant in UCO Bank, Patna in the year 1983-91 and cheated the bank to the tune of Rs. 25,70,073/- while using forged and fabricated debit vouchers passed by him. 

Investigation further disclosed that accused had opened a SB account with Rs.25/- in cash which was introduced by him. Several fake credit entries were made in the ledger sheet of this account by accused and accused fraudulently withdrew money on the basis of cheques/ withdrawal slips written in his own handwriting. 

Initially three cases were registered in the matter which were later amalgamated on the ground that documents & allegations were the same and the witnesses were common in all three cases. 

After completion of investigation, a single chargesheet was filed by CBI against the sole accused A.K. Biswas, then Spl. Assistant, UCO Bank, Frazer Road Branch, Patna and charges were framed against the accused on 22.06.2006. 

The Court, after trial, held accused guilty and sentenced him accordingly.
