INTERNATIONAL EXPERT HOUR WITH DR. GIRIJA BORKER HELD AT GAMC ABOHAR

The Postgraduate Department of Commerce and Economics, Gopichand Arya Mahila College, Abohar in collaboration with IQAC, organized an International Expert Hour on the theme “Breaking Economic Barriers: Women on the Rise”. This insightful session featured internationally acclaimed economist Dr. Girija Borker as the keynote speaker. 

Dr. Borker, a Research Economist and Gender Lead at the World Bank’s Development Impact Unit (DIME), delivered an engaging and thought-provoking session on “Barriers to Women's Economic Participation: A Discussion on Global Evidence and Potential Solutions.” She highlighted the various socio-economic and infrastructural challenges that hinder women's access to economic opportunities worldwide. Drawing on her extensive research, she discussed critical issues such as gender-based violence in public spaces, inadequate transportation, and the economic consequences of restricted mobility for women.  

(SUBHEAD)Principal Dr. Rekha Sood Handa emphasised the importance of creating safe and inclusive spaces for women in workplaces and public life to ensure their full participation in the economy.  

The session was graced by the presence of Charu Ahuja, Academic Advisor, GCAMC. The event was convened by Dr. Manoj Phutela HoD Department of Commerce and S.K. Monga HoD Deptt. of Economics as the co-convenor. Vanita Makkar, Arushi, Gayatri Sethi and Rekha were members of the steering committee.
