Continuing with its policy of zero-tolerance against corrupt police personnel, the Delhi Police has arrested red-handed, an Assistant Sub-Inspector, ASI Sudesh Kumar Yadav, of Police Station Model Town, North-West District, while he was accepting bribe money of Rs.2,00,000/- (Rs.2.0 Lakh) for allowing repair work on the terrace, from the complainant, who is a retired Inspector of Delhi Police.
The action was initiated by Delhi Police’s Vigilance Unit, located at Barakhamba Road, on a complaint filed by the retired Inspector, who is a resident of Mahendru Enclave, Model Town, who had alleged in his complaint that he was being continuously pestered with demand of bribe of Rs.4.0 Lakh by ASI Sudesh in lieu of permission to carry out repair work in his residential premises.
On 14.04.2025, the complaint of retired Inspector was received at Vigilance Unit, Delhi Police, wherein complainant informed that when he started some civil work at his residential premises, the same was got stopped by ASI Sudesh and other Beat Staff of the area. A demand of Rs 4.0 Lakh was made from the retired Inspector, with a threat that the civil work can be started only after the demand of bribe money is met. The matter was finally settled for Rs.2,00,000/-.
(SUBHEAD)The complainant further informed in his complaint that he had also met the SHO of the Police Station with his grievance regarding stoppage of work, but he was asked by the SHO to meet ASI Sudesh. The complainant further informed that ASI Sudesh has called him today (i.e., 14/04/2025) along with the bribe money. The complainant also provided a Pen Drive with his complaint, informing that it contains audio recordings of conversations he has had with different police officials of PS Model Town, in respect of the bribe demand.
After receipt of this information at Vigilance Unit, legal action was immediately initiated. A Raiding Team of Vigilance Unit was formed, and a trap was laid. At about 6.30 P.M., ASI Sudesh called the complainant to his room located at 1st Floor of Police Station Model Town and again asked for money from the complainant. After discussion, he accepted the bribe money of Rs. 2.0 Lakh from the complainant.
The Vigilance Raiding Team, which was observing all the activities from a distance, immediately swung into action and apprehended ASI Sudesh Kumar Yadav. On search, the tainted bribe money was recovered from him. After completing all the proceedings, an FIR U/s 7 Prevention of Corruption (PoC) Act, 1988 (amended in the year 2018) was registered at Police Station Vigilance. ASI Sudesh was arrested in the case and is being produced before Ld. Spl. Judge, PC Act, Rouse Avenue Court.
Further investigation into the case is underway. The content of the Pen Drive shared by the complainant is being examined and appropriate further action will be taken as per findings.
The arrested accused, ASI Sudesh, joined Delhi Police in the year 1995, and was presently posted in PS Model Town, North-West District, as a Beat Officer.
