CBI COURT SENTENCES THEN MANAGER OF A AGENCY OF STANDARD CHARTERED BANK, CHENNAI TO 4 YEARS’ RI DISPROPORTIONATE CASE

The Hon’ble VIII Principal Special Court for CBI Cases, Chennai today i.e. 21.04.2025 sentenced Shri E. Rajendran, then Manager, Agency Field & Collections, Card Field Collections Department, Standard Chartered Bank, Rajaji Salai, Chennai to 4 years’ Imprisonment with fine Rs. 50,000/- in a Disproportionate case. He was sent to Judicial Custody.

CBI had registered the instant case on 29.12.2021 against Shri.E.Rajendran, then Manager, Agency Field & Collections, Card Field Collections Department, Standard Chartered Bank, Rajaji Salai, Chennai who in the capacity of a Public Servant had intentionally enriched himself illicitly during the period of his office i.e. from 01.04.2020 to 18.02.2021.

It was alleged that the accused was in possession of pecuniary resources and properties disproportionate to his known sources of income in his name to the tune of Rs.30,68,513.33/- which was 93.65% disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Investigation revealed that accused Shri. E. Rajendran while working as Manager, during 01.04.2020 to 18.02.2021 had intentionally enriched himself illicitly through corrupt means and accumulated assets in his name through pecuniary resources to the tune of Rs.28,07,814/- which was 145.86% more than his income for which Shri. E. Rajendran, Public Servant could not satisfactorily account for.

After completion of investigation, Charge Sheet was filed by CBI on 03.06.2023 against accused before the Hon’ble VIII Principal Special Court for CBI Cases, Chennai.

The Court, after trial, held the accused guilty and sentenced him accordingly.
