Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring has said that Phagwara like situation prevailed in many other areas in Punjab. It seems almost impossible that the state government would be able to make Punjab drug free by May 31.
Arrests of the CIA staff in Phagwara for demanding bribes from drug traffickers indicate that the claims of drug-freeness will remain limited to publicity only. Referring to the raid by the Vigilance Department at the house of MLA Raman Arora and arrest later, Warring said that people know how many ruling party leaders are allegedly involved in corruption, but the government floats such pre-scripted stories to divert people's attention from its failures. In villages, people can call the Mann govt as “mashoorian wali sarkar” which believes in “work less, propagate more”.
He said at a media interaction at former MLA Dr Mohinder Rinwa’s house that it is the misfortune of the country that after 78 years of independence, apart from the BJP-ruled Central Government, some state governments are also tearing apart the Constitution, in whose name the leaders took oath and took place in the cabinets.
He said that contrary to the dignity of the Indian Republic, the opposition is being targeted by the Union Govt and some state governments as well. Whoever raises his/her voice against the wrong policies and oppression of the government, action like a bulldozer is taken by twisting the law. Several times senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was ridiculed by BJP as the latter felt upset at his popularity in India and abroad. “Congress is organising “Samvidhan Bachao Rallies” to bring awareness among the people, he added.
