ARORA HANDS OVER A CHEQUE OF RS.10 LAKH TO PUNJAB BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION, VISITED NATIONAL BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

MP (Rajya Sabha) Sanjeev Arora went to Indoor Guru Nanak Stadium here on Saturday to witness the matches in the ongoing 73rd Senior National Basketball Championships there.

The championships were started on December 3, which are to conclude on December 10. Arora witnessed a complete match between the players of Karnataka and Kerala (girls). Kerala gave a crushing defeat to Karnataka in this thrilling and interesting match.

Players were also introduced to Arora. He highly appreciated team spirit of the players and enthusiasm and sportsmanship among them. He highly lauded Punjab Basketball Association for taking an initiative to organise this big sports event in the industrial city of Ludhiana.

Arora spoke about importance of sports in one’s life. He said sports play an important role in mental and physical fitness, adding that there is a dire need to encourage youths towards sports to check menace of drug addiction. He said a healthy person can play a key role in nation building. He opined that more such sports events should be organised in Ludhiana and other parts of the state.

On the occasion, Arora handed over a cheque of grant of Rs.10 lakh to Punjab Basketball Association (PBA). He said he is always ready to support and encourage sports events. The PBA office-bearers expressed their gratitude towards Arora for supporting financially. They also honoured Arora with a memento and shawl.

The PBA office -bearers including general secretary Teja Singh Dhaliwal were present on the occasion.
