In a memorandum sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangh has demanded that on the occasion of Somvati Amavasya, a special train should be run from Sriganganagar to Haridwar via Abohar on June 17.
NGO president Sushil Kumar Goyal said that on Somvati Amavasya, there is a centuries-old tradition of pilgrimage to have holy bath in Ganga at Haridwar. In the Hindu month of Savan, thousands of people leave for Haridwar to visit Neelkanth Mahadev.(SUBHEAD)
Goyal said that only one train 14712 runs for Haridwar in the morning from Abohar. Available seats/berths in the train are less than one thousand. Many times, even during the daily journey, hundreds of passengers are forced to travel for 8 hours standing. Not a single seat is available in the air-conditioned coaches of this train till June 30 as people’s summer vacation preference has by and large been Haridwar.
That's why a special train is needed from Sriganganagar via Abohar-Bathinda to Haridwar from June 15 to September 15, because in the month of Sawan, thousands of kanwariyas go to Haridwar to get holy water and this month has a different significance. Similarly special trains are also run several times on the occasion of holy festivals of Sikhs and Bhandaras held at Dera Beas Amritsar.
The memorandum said that at present Char Dham Yatra and Hemkunt Sahib Yatra are also going on in Uttarakhand, therefore it is very important to run a special train from this region to Haridwar so that devotees are not deprived of taking advantage of such special opportunities. EOM
