Delhi police solved double murder case of aged couple police station Gokalpuri On 10.4.23 Senior Citizens, Sh. Radhey Shyam Verma (72) and his wife Smt. Veena age 68 years were found murdered inside their ground floor bedroom. Both their throats had been slit. Sh. Radhey Shyam had retired as Vice Principal from Delhi Government School, Karol Bagh Model Basti, Delhi.
Ms. Monika, daughter in law of the old age couple had orchestrated the murders. Monika – daughter in law had planned and executed the murders with the help of her boyfriend and his friend
MOTIVE BEHIND MURDER: Monika wanted to eliminate all opposition and settle down with her boyfriend along with the money she would make after selling the property. On 10.04.2023, at 07:19 am call was received regarding double murder in Gali No. 13/6, Bhagirathi Vihar, PS. Gokalpuri, Delhi.
SHO and staff rushed to the spot. It was found that Sh. Radhey Shyam Verma (72) s/o Late Sh. Durga Prasad r/o Bhagirathi Vihar, PS. Gokalpuri, Delhi and his wife Smt. Veena age 68 years had been murdered inside their ground floor bedroom. The house had been ransacked. The house itself is Ground and First floor. Their son Sh. Ravi Rattan age 38 years lives on the first floor with his family wife Smt Monika age 30 and a 5 year old boy.
(MOREPIC2) Throats of both Sh. Radhey Shyam and his wife Smt Veena have been slit. Sh. Radhey Shyam had retired as Vice Principal from Delhi Government School, Karol Bagh Model Basti, Delhi. The family has been living in this house since the past 38 years.
Rs. 4.5 lakhs and some jewellery were missing from the house. The probable mode of entry was through the iron rear gate of the house. Sh. Radhey Shyam had recently taken Rs. 5 lakhs as advance money to sell off the rear portion of the house.
Sh. Ravi Verma (son) used to work as guest teacher in Mustafabad. However, now he runs a Garment and Cosmetic shop from Johripur area. He had last seen his parents at about 10:30 pm the night before.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 171 dated 10.04.2023 u/s 457/392/397/302 IPC PS Gokal Puri, Delhi was registered and investigation was taken up.
Several teams including 2 ACsP, 8 Inspectors and almost 60 men were constituted to work on the case.
During initial investigation, it was learnt that Monika w/o Ravi Rattan was unhappy with her marriage. She had an extra marital affair with Ashish, who lived in Ghaziabad. Her husband, Ravi, knew about her affair and the couple used to have frequent quarrels over the issue.
Sh. Radhey Shyam and his wife, Veena also found out about Monika’s affair and the entire household came under a lot of stress. Sh. Radhey Shyam was known to have a quick temper and a loud vice. He would scold Ravi and Veena over petty issues. Smt. Veena kept a close watch over her daughter in law and Monika felt stifled. The neighbourhood heard them fighting and informed the police team about their suspicions.
The police team began searching for Ashish and found out that he had been missing since the evening prior to the murders. His mobile phone was switched off.
The CCTV footages in the area behind the place of occurrence revealed 2 boys, both wearinghelmets, leaving on a motorcycle. During investigation, it was found out that the person riding pillion of the motorcycle was Ashish.
Monika broke down during sustained interrogation and disclosed that she had planned the murders along with Ashish, who had committed the murders along with his friend. She did not know the name of his friend.
Monika Singh completed her graduation from Delhi University and used to work at a Call Centre in NOIDA. She got married with Ravi Rattan in 2016. Ravi completed his graduation from Open University before doing his B.Ed from a Private University. He has also completed his Diploma in Electrical Engineering from another Private College. He used to work as a Guest Teacher in a Government School for a while, before opening a general store near Johripur. They have a son, age 5 years. After marriage Monika left her job and settled in domesticity. (SUBHEAD)
Dr. Joy Tirkey, IPS, DCP, North East, said, during Covid period, she became very active on the social media and made a large number of online friends. She met Ashish on Facebook in August, 2020. They became intimate on social media and decided to meet in February, 2021. Ashish came over and they spent a day at a Hotel in the area. After this, they began meeting at various hotels at regular intervals.
Ravi found out about their love affair when he read some objectionable messages on her WhatsApp. He took away her smart phone and gave her a simple feature phone. However, Ashish and Monika kept on meeting each other. Several times Ashish took Monika to his Ghaziabad house and introduced her to his mother and brother as her girlfriend. However, when Ashish’s mother found out that Monika was already married and had a kid, she began objecting to the relationship.
Sh. Radhe Shyam and his family planned to sell the property to buy a house in Dwarka, Delhi. However, they were unable to find a single buyer who would pay Rs. 1.5 crores and purchase the property from them. Due to this, Sh. Radhe Shyam decided to sell the property in parts. He had also taken advance Rs. 5 lakhs for selling the rear portion of his house. The The deal had been finalized on 12th February, 2023.
Monika woke up to the deal suddenly. She and Ashish had been planning to eliminate the old couple for a while. The idea had germinated in Monika’s mind, sometime in December, 2022. During one of their rendezvouses in December, 2022, she had shared the idea with Ashish and he had agreed to getting it done. After the deal on 12th February, they started laying their plan. They met in a Hotel on 20th February and finalized their plan.
They decided to have a couple of secret phone numbers to execute the murders. Ashish arranged for a couple of new SIM cards. He came to Monika’s parental home to deliver her SIM card to her.
2 days before the murder, Ashish and Monika started talking on their secret phones. She called him to her place on Sunday 9th April evening. He along with his associate arrived just after dark. Monika made sure that the house was empty before she called him inside through the rear gate. She had sent her mother in law and her husband to the local market. Her father in law was at the shop and would return after 08:00 pm.
As soon as she let Ashish and his associate in, she led them to the terrace to hide them. She provided them with soft drinks and refreshments. Their long wait began.
The family retired after dinner by 10:30 pm. Sometime after 01:15 am, Ashish called her and told her that he was coming downstairs and that she should not come out of the room at any cost. She waited for him to execute the plan. They kept on speaking on the phone throughout this period. At about 02:12 am, Ashish called her to inform that he was leaving and the job had been done.
In the morning, the dead bodies were discovered by Ravi and he informed Monika. Thereafter, Monika called her family members. Her brother Gyaneshwar @ Golu reached the spot and called the PCR.
Several teams have been constituted to apprehend Ashish (29). In the investigation conducted up till now, all evidence points towards the involvement of Monika, Ashish and Ashish’s associate. The motorcycle that was used by the criminals has also been identified.
