FIRST TIME THE NUMBER OF WOMEN JUDGES INCREASED TO 12, THE TOTAL NUMBER REACHED 66

The Punjab and Haryana High Court will have 10 more judges, including 5 new women judges. These judges include Kuldeep Tiwari, Gurbir Singh, Deepak Gupta, Amarjot Bhatti, Ritu Tagore, Manisha Batra, Harpreet Kaur Jeevan, Sukhwinder Kaur, Sanjeev Beri and Vikram Aggarwal. The President of India has issued orders for the appointment of these judges on Tuesday and the formal notification was also issued.
This is the first time in the history of Punjab and Haryana High Court that the number of women judges has crossed the ten mark to 12. This will also be the first time in the history of the High Court that the total number of judges will be 66. Never before has there been such a number of judges in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Some time back also 12 new judges were appointed for the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The total sanctioned strength of High Court is 85. Till three months back, the strength of judges in the Punjab and Haryana High Court was less than 50. Interestingly, the number of cases pending in the High Court is about 7 lakh.
