Fresh bids believed to have been made by Punjab based smugglers to get supply of heroin from Pakistan were foiled as the “C” company of 23 BN BSF recovered a black colored bag of a Lahore (Pakistan) sports shop during a search in a field near the Kailash border post of the Border Security Force recently in Sriganganagar area. The bag carried three packets of 1 kg each and about one packet of 700 gm of heroin.

It is believed that the bag was dropped using a drone by Pakistani smugglers in the field on Saturday night. BSF sources said that at 12:45 pm on Saturday, BSF jawans posted in the Kailash border outpost area heard the sound of a drone and started firing but the drone escaped to the Pakistan side. In the morning, a search operation was carried out in the fields adjoining the Kailash border post. During this, this black colored bag was found in the field of a farmer Bhupinder Singh, in which 3 kg 700 grams of heroin was recovered.(SUBHEAD)

The value of the consignment in the international market is estimated to be around Rs 18 crore. Further investigation will be carried out by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). It is believed that Indian smugglers by contacting Pakistani counterparts planned to get heroin from drones at this location point, which failed after the BSF jawans heard the sound of the drone and fired. Despite several incidents during the last 2 years, no anti drone system has been arranged.

As search continued, another suspicious bag was found in a field near Lakha Hakam village located near the international border. Two packets, each containing one-kg heroin, were found in the bag. It appeared that the same were also dropped through a drone.

In another incident Amjad alias Ajju (28) of village Gudiya, was caught using a Brezza car on the Sangria-Dabwali Road with 510 gm of heroin.

He reportedly revealed the names of four peddlers who used to get heroin from him. Some people from Punjab have also been contacting him to collect the contraband but he could not reveal their names. Ajju said that he had bought heroin on Friday night from a Nigerian person in New Delhi.
