In view of the sanitation issues and operational hindrances in Sector 26 Mandi Chandigarh due to leading to water accumulation because of yesterday's rainfall during the early hours, a joint Encroachment and Sanitation Drive was carried out in the Sector 26 Mandi on Saturday.

The drive was carried out as per the directions of Administrator,  Market Committee and the Secretary, Market Committee, Chandigarh supervised the drive.

Acting promptly on the situation, the Market Committee, Chandigarh, deployed its staff along with the sanitation contractor staff early in the morning to address the waterlogging and unsanitary conditions caused by the rainfall. A coordinated effort was launched to remove unauthorised encroachments within the mandi premises and ensure thorough cleaning of the entire area. To ensure effectiveness and timely action, the sanitation contractor deployed additional manpower and machinery for the drive.

The drive aimed at restoring smooth movement of goods and pedestrians while also ensuring public health and hygiene in the mandi. Encroaching vendors were cleared from key pathways, and special attention was given to dewatering operations and removal of garbage and sludge.

The Market Committee reaffirms its commitment to maintaining cleanliness and order in the mandi and urges all vendors and stakeholders to extend their cooperation in keeping the mandi clean, accessible and free from encroachments.
