CBI COURT SENTENCES THEN RPO OF KERALA FOR FIVE YEARS RI WITH FINE OF DA CASE

CBI Court sentences then Passport Officer, Regional Passport Office, Malappuram Kerala to five years’ Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 05 lakh in Disproportionate Assets case

The Hon’ble Court of Special Judge-I, CBI Cases, Ernakulam sentenced P. Ramakrishnan, then Passport Officer, Regional Passport Office, Malappuram, Kerala (on deputation from Postal Deptt.) to five years’ Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) with fine of Rs. 5 lakh in a Disproportionate Assets (DA) case.

The Court also ordered that DA amounting to Rs.29,49,607/- be confiscated.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered the instant case on 31/12/2015 on allegations that accused public servant, while working as Passport Officer, Regional Passport Office, Malappuram, was in possession of Disproportionate Assets (DA).

It was alleged that during the period from 1/2/2014 to 20/07/2015, accused committed grave criminal misconduct by acquiring assets in his name and in the name of his mother and wife which were disproportionate to his known sources of income to the tune of Rs.36,32,502/-. Accused could not satisfactorily account for the same.

After completion of investigation, chargesheet was filed by CBI on 26.10.2016 against accused before the Hon’ble Court.

The Court, after trial, found accused guilty and sentenced him accordingly.
